Assistant Child Development Specialist

UNI's Child Development Center (CDC) is adding an Assistant Child Development Specialist to its team! The Assistant Child Development Specialist will primarily be assigned to the preschool classroom, but may assist or rotate to other classrooms as needed. The preschool curriculum includes group experiences, long-term projects, fine and gross motor activities, child-directed and teacher-directed experiences. A main focus for the preschool teachers is promoting kindergarten readiness.
The service schedule for this position follows the academic year and CDC summer sessions, with the following time off: Thanksgiving week, winter break, spring break, and a two week break between the summer and fall sessions.
 
Impact & Responsibilities: Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on meeting the needs of the individual child, and of small and large groups of children of varying ages and interests; ensures curriculum meets the needs of diverse learners and various subgroups of students, such as students with dual language barriers and students with disabilities; engages with parents daily, initiating written and/or face-to-face communication, taking into consideration the communication needs of those with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds; conducts parent-teacher conferences each semester and is available to meet with families as needed; and responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of student assistants.
 
Requirements: Bachelor's degree; current CPR/First Aid, Mandatory Reporter, Universal Precautions (OSHA), and Essentials Child Care Training certifications or ability to obtain certifications within 90 days of hire. Occasional work outside of normal hours will be necessary.
 
Spring 2024 graduates will be considered. Degree must be conferred prior to start date.
 
Preferred: Child care experience preferred. Student experience will be considered
