Postdoctoral Scholar - Languages & Literatures
Responsibilities: Contributes to grant activities including design and implementation of research-based, online (asynchronous and synchronous) professional development related to supporting multilingual learners in ESL and content area classes; contributes to research design and implementation, including human subject procedures, conference proposals and presentations, and publications; conducts secondary research and literature reviews; and teaches one course per semester (e.g., language teaching methods, bilingualism and bilingual education) to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
This is a term position, expected to conclude August 31, 2027, with possibility to extend beyond that date. This position is funded by a National Professional Development grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of English Language Acquisition.
This position is eligible to be performed remotely within the state of Iowa. Employees who elect remote work must comply with the requirements of our remote work policy and agreement.
Qualifications: Doctorate degree in education, educational linguistics, or TESOL required. ABDs will be considered. Degree must be conferred prior to start date. At least two years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting, online teaching, teacher preparation and/or professional development; relevant experience and scholarship in one or more of the following key grant areas: supporting multilingual learners in ESL and/or content area classes, family/community engagement, or teacher preparation/professional development for working with multilingual learners; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; and excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Experience in K-12 multilingual or dual language education in the US; experience with participant action research and/or mixed methods research design; and experience with ethnic community-based organizations (ECBOs) preferred. Student experience will be considered.
