Clinical Assistant Professor – Social Work

The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Social Work seeks applications for a two-year term Clinical Assistant Professor position, starting in August 2026. The appointment may be extended after the initial two-year term. There is an additional opportunity for the successful candidate to begin in June 2026 to teach the MSW course DSM: Balancing Strengths and Differential Diagnosis. Job Duties and Responsibilities: This position is primarily focused on teaching and service, with a workload distribution of 80% Teaching and 20% Service.

Teaching (80%): Carry a 4x4 teaching load (four courses per semester). Instruction will occur at both the BSW and MSW levels. Candidates must be prepared to deliver high-quality instruction across multiple modalities, including online, in-person, and hybrid formats.

Service (20%): Participate in departmental, university, and community service activities. This includes student advising, committee work, and supporting the mission of the Social Work department.

Summer Opportunity: Potential for additional 1/9th salary per class for summer teaching assignments based on departmental needs.

Required Qualifications: Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program; at least two full years of post-MSW practice experience; and ability to demonstrate teaching effectiveness required.

Preferred Qualifications: Current Social Work License; specific expertise or practice experience in addictions and/or macro practice; and demonstrated experience in post-secondary education teaching preferred.
