Based on experience, the successful candidate will be hired into one of two levels of professional opportunity: Programmer Analyst or Senior Programmer Analyst and will have the opportunity to progress through the career path by achieving defined performance objectives once employed. Duties and qualifications listed are for the Programmer Analyst position. Additional duties and qualifications required for the Senior Programmer Analyst position will be discussed through the search process with qualified individuals. There are two additional levels to the career path, including Systems Analyst and Senior Systems Analyst, which are beyond the considerations for this position posting at this time.
This position is eligible to be performed remotely within the state of Iowa. Employees who elect remote work must comply with the requirements of our remote work policy and agreement.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops computer code from general specifications into language appropriate to the assignment; creates application programs of moderate to somewhat complex difficulty to meet user needs for central and/or distributed processes; and adheres to departmental standards, policies, and procedures in the development process.
  • Develops and uses sample input data to test accuracy of program(s); checks and corrects errors by making modifications as needed; verifies test results with supervisor and/or users; and develops/updates documentation of program code, procedure information, and job schedule as needed.
  • Consults with users or senior staff to define subsystem or program requirements; identifies programming and output needs; verifies preliminary design and output; and develops general specifications for program(s) needed to produce desired result.
  • Reviews and analyzes system/program problems; consults with senior staff as necessary to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals; and answers questions and provides technical assistance and/or training to team members and system users.
  • This position is with our Student Information Systems team, and works directly with Student based data, on our Peoplesoft Campus Solutions platform (including Oracle Database).
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field required. An Associate’s degree in an IT related field plus at least three years of IT related experience may be substituted. Fall 2024 graduates will be considered. Degree must be conferred prior to start date.

An understanding of administrative uses of computing services, working knowledge of SQL, knowledge or exposure to a relational DBMS, and course work or practical experience with modern programming languages required. Experience with UNIX operating systems, Oracle DBMS, and Oracle PL/SQL, People Tools, and familiarity with university standards and practices preferred. Student experience will be considered.
