The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) was established in 1987 under the Ground Water Protection Act and has grown to be a nationally recognized organization devoted to environmental consulting, assistance, training and education. Staff members serve as leaders in state, regional, and national organizations while working in the Cedar Valley.
 
The IWRC has been providing free and confidential environmental assistance to Iowa small businesses since 1988. Education and assistance related to air emissions, solid and hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater and other applicable regulations is provided to businesses to ensure they understand their responsibilities under state and federal regulations. In 2019, the IWRC began offering energy efficiency assistance to Iowa small businesses to help in reducing energy consumed by small business operations.
 
Responsibilities: Works with program managers in the Environmental Assistance and Energy Efficiency programs at the Iowa Waste Reduction Center; assists with grant and contracted projects related to environmental compliance and energy efficiency; works directly with targeted industries to provide education and guidance on applicable regulations, pollution prevention or waste reduction strategies; conducts on-site environmental assistance assessments; assists with research, recordkeeping and reporting; prepares written reports and compliance plans for businesses; and assists with workshops.
 
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field plus at least one year of experience in environmental consulting or related experience required. Travel within the state will be necessary for both programs.
