Safety Director
Develop, maintain and manage safety and loss prevention programs for the Company. Educate and coach Company employees with OSHA, state, local and owner safety requirements and compliance. Act as Safety Coordinator for the Company with clients and subcontractors. Manage cases for injured employees.
Essential Functions:
- Develop, maintain, and manage safety and loss prevention programs for the Company
- Be a coach and information resource to project managers, engineers, site supervisors and employees with OSHA, state, local and owner safety requirements and compliance. Respond to requests for on site assistance
- Consult with Director of Field Resources on safety issues with regard to acquisition, maintenance, inspection and record keeping for tools and equipment
- Conduct on site safety audits, identify hazards, recommend corrective action and document audit with written report on every major job not less than once per quarter
- Write site specific safety and safety training plans; identify hazards which are unique to the scope of work or the work site or to the client, identify hazard controls and ensure crew is trained on the plan, and verify that content was learned by crew shall be documented
- Case management of injured employees; ensure prompt, competent medical treatment, work with health care providers and insurance companies to ensure quality care for the employee while minimizing costs and impact to EMR and OSHA statistics, close case as soon as possible
- Conduct a review of all outstanding workman compensation cases and related reserves before data is reported to NCCI for MOD determination
- Track ongoing workman’s compensation litigation against the Company
- Manage OSHA inspections and answer OSHA Citations as required
- Conduct accident investigations and document in writing; determine root cause(s) and ancillary causal factors, recommend and implement actions to prevent recurrence, develop plans and procedures to implement corrective action(s) identified
- Act as Safety Coordinator for CANCO with client project management and safety directors
- Act as Safety Coordinator for CANCO with subcontractor project management and safety directors
- Complete safety portion of prequalification questionnaires and assist subcontractors as required with owner required safety qualification
- Administer and manage tracking of safety incentive programs
- Develop Company safety training subjects and material
- Train all employees on up-to-date safety methods/procedures, hazard recognition and mitigation, safety processes, regulatory requirements and use of safety equipment
- Identify site specific and customer specific safety training needs, schedule training sessions on (and ensures attendance at) safety related issues and topics pertinent to scopes of work
Other Functions:
- Track and manage safety related expenses
- Provide safety data to support business development as needed
- May be asked to perform other duties as required by business needs
Education:
- Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health or related field or substantial work experience in construction industry
- Current OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer Card (OSHA 500)
Experience:
5 years of construction related experience, preferably in industrial and commercial settings
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., minimum of 40 hours per week. Hours of Work may fluctuate depending on the needs of the projects and workload.
Travel:
Travel to job sites will be required. Job site locations are variable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:
Working knowledge of OSHA, state, local requirements and compliance
Working knowledge of the Company’s Policies and Procedures
Working knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications and using mathematics to solve problems
General knowledge of means and methods of construction
Working knowledge of basic features of Excel
Strong English verbal and written communication skills
General knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records.
