The City of Cedar Falls Public Safety Services Department is accepting applications from employees to test for Paid On-Call (POC) Reserve Police Officers that train with and work to supplement career Officers. 

Interested employees must: have at least one-year experience in their current position (exceptions require their Dep’t. Director and Police Chief approval), be at least 19 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid Iowa Driver’s License with good driving record, be an Iowa resident, and successfully pass a background check and post-offer Police Officer physical including drug screen.

During consideration, the applicant’s Dep’t. Director and Police Chief will consider evaluations, disciplinary history, productivity, and standing within the applicant’s department. The individual’s supervisor will also provide input to determine eligibility for the program. An employee’s participation in the Police Paid On-Call program is completely “at will” and continued participation is contingent upon continued approval by the employee’s Department Director and Police Chief.

Paid On-Call Officers are provided with the necessary training, equipment, and uniforms and eligible for premium pay while completing training at 1 ½ overtime their regular rate of pay.  Non-exempt employees who successfully complete and maintain their paid on-call certification will receive 1 1/2 their regular rate of pay for all hours worked as a POC.  POCs must participate in 192 POC hours per year (16 hours per month X 12 months, or annual equivalent based on training and other police activities).  Exempt employees will receive premium pay of $10,816 annually.

Testing will be completed in Cedar Falls at the Public Safety Center building located at 4600 South Main Street on Saturday, August 8^th at 8:00 a.m. Candidates will be informed of their eligibility to test, and additional information will be provided to complete and return to testing.
