POSITION DESCRIPTION-Electrician (Full-Time)
Function of Position:
Responsible to the Director of Maintenance and Cleaning for performing electrical design, repair, and installation on high voltage, secondary voltage, emergency, security, fire protection, and heating and cooling systems. Incumbents may work with students, team members, college employees, guests of the college and vendors, treating all with respect.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, install, repair, and inspect components of secondary voltage systems such as circuit panels and boards, starters, pumps, compressors, and motors according to code, state regulations, and safety procedures.
- Be closely involved with the purchase, order, and maintaining electrical supplies, parts, and equipment. As needed, prepare bills for electrical work. Prepare quotes.
- Install, repair, and inspect components of emergency, security, and fire protection systems such as generators, warning systems, panels, sidewalk/parking lot gates and security systems and backups according to code, state regulations, and safety procedures.
- Complete underground locates to identify buried utilities.
- Fire detection systems including life safety, Ansul & Halon. Installation, troubleshoot, repair.
- AutoCAD, spreadsheet correlation, tables, charts, file conversion involved in record keeping. Floorplans & maps of all campus areas, interior or exterior. Keeping them current.
- Code management, implementation of Life Safety, electrical, mechanical systems. Lock out, tagout procedures.
- Effectively utilize the work order system and respond to assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Install, repair, and inspect components of heating and cooling systems such as hydronic, steam, forced air, radiant, electronic heating systems, cooling towers, chillers, and air-to-air exchangers.
- Install and inspect communication/network systems including fiber optic, telephone, computer, audio/video networks and cable televisions systems.
- Serve as technical liaison with contractors for design, remodeling, and new construction projects.
- Maintain records and documentation of building projects, construction, well water usage, utility maps, and electrical and mechanical systems.
- Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects.
- Work collaboratively with general maintenance staff and trades staff in completion of work orders.
- Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Definite objectives are set up for the employee by the supervisor, requiring the use of a wide range of procedures. With input from the supervisor, the employee plans and arranges his/her own work and refers only unusual cases to the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
5-10 years of directly related experience required
Journeymen electrician license preferred
Valid driver's license required.
Physical Abilities:
Ability to lift over 50 pounds
Ability to work with arms above shoulder height
