Visitors & Tourism Sales and Marketing Coordinator

The City of Cedar Falls Visitors & Tourism Division is seeking to certify a Civil Service list for and employ a Sales & Marketing Coordinator. Current starting pay: $24.231/hr. plus full-time benefit package. This individual will actively solicit business from a variety of organizations and present Cedar Falls as a premier meeting and event destination. Through cooperative efforts with the local hospitality industry, destination marketing partners, and community members, the Coordinator will secure business that generates significant economic impact for the community. The position receives direction from the Visitors & Tourism/Cultural Programs Manager and may provide direction to Visitor & Tourism Coordinators and Assistants. Position duties may include, but not be limited to: developing marketing material content, coordinating layout with the City’s graphic designer, and distributing materials to promote Cedar Falls; researching meetings and events that complement Cedar Falls’ image, amenities and economic development efforts to attract events. This includes on-line research, tradeshow attendance, sales and phone calls, etc. Duties may also include maintaining a client and business database with event information and economic impact; developing and maintaining relationships with planners and related organizations for lead prospecting, repeat business, and event assistance; building relationships with the hospitality industry to organize sales and marketing opportunities and create proposals to attract meetings and groups; supporting City events by organizing volunteers and necessary services; responding to meeting inquiries; and supporting and assisting with the duties of the V&T Senior Services Coordinator and Assistants. The successful candidate must be a self-motived, organized individual with strong interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills. The ability to coordinate and administer multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner utilizing desktop publishing, word processing and spreadsheet applications, the internet, analytics, and phone and office skills also required. Additionally, the individual will need scheduling flexibility to represent the City during some evenings and weekends to accommodate events, meetings, site visits, and attend shows and out-of-town sales calls. Education and experience requirements: Associate’s degree in sales, marketing, hospitality or business with at least three years of experience in sales, marketing, or public relations, preferably in the travel and hospitality industry. Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license and post-offer, pre-employment physical are also required of selected candidate. Completion of a position related questionnaire will be required after candidates meeting the above education and experience requirements are approved by the City’s Civil Service Commission.
