Status: 30-32 hrs/week, Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Engagement Oversees: Administrative Assistant Qualifications: The ideal Human Resources Manager for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to those in need in our 16 county service area. This individual will be a vital component of the Engagement Department in engaging the staff and community to partner with the Food Bank in the fight against hunger. This team member must demonstrate outstanding organizational, planning & implementation skills, in order to provide optimal experiences for NEIFB staff. The ability to work in a fast-paced and progressive environment will be key to success in this role. This individual will have exceptionally articulate public speaking, interpersonal and detail-oriented skills, which will be critical for the development of strong relationships between coworkers and the community. Cultural competency is of utmost importance, as the Human Resources Manager will work with diverse populations on a regular basis. The Human Resources Manager must possess a strong sense of initiative, adaptability and flexibility to meet the needs of the community and Food Bank, and take on other duties as necessary. This individual must have a high degree of integrity and understand confidentiality. As a manager level position, this individual will play a vital role in developing culture and morale of staff and a role in sharing the NEIFB brand out in the community. About the Job: The responsibilities of the Human Resources Manager include, but are not limited to, the following: • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning. • Writes HR policies and procedures to comply with state and federal laws. • Manages the Administrative Assistant and ensuring all the functions of the Administrative Assistant job duties are completed. • Provides support and guidance to other Food Bank staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations. • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. • Implement, maintain and update the online employee payroll and HR system along with ensuring personnel trainings and certifications are passed and kept up-to-date. • Administers a benefit program to include health, dental, flexible benefits, deferred compensation and others as deemed appropriate. Ensures changes in benefit plans and open enrollment information are provided to all employees. • Works with benefit vendors to update services, monitor and ensure compliance with all regulations. • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent. • Oversees the new hire orientation process. • Updates and monitors the performance evaluation system. • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees. This includes, but is not limited to, all training required for compliance audits. • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. • Other duties as assigned. Ticket/Specifications: Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and 2 year’s experience related to management or non-profit work; combination of education and experience taken into consideration. • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. • Ability to speak publicly and facilitate group meetings • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
