Tourism & Cultural Programs Manager

Seeking a new employment destination with an artistic flair?  The City of Cedar Falls is seeking a Tourism & Cultural Programs Manager to manage, plan, and coordinate the activities and operations of its tourism and cultural programs and services to foster, market, service and promote the community as a quality destination for visitors and residents.  This individual will coordinate with other City departments and divisions, outside agencies, and the general public while receiving general direction from and providing highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the City’s Community Development Director.  This position will also provide assistance to and receive policy and program direction from the Visitors & Tourism and Art & Culture Boards.  The above is accomplished with the assistance of the various full and part-time tourism and cultural staff.
 
Position duties will include, but not be limited to:  providing oversight and leading the promotion of Cedar Falls and metro area by developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing strategy and leading the development and preparation of marketing materials for tourism and cultural programs and services; meeting with groups to market and explain programs and services; working with the public to develop programs and services; composing, compiling, preparing, reviewing, and distributing a variety of correspondence, reports, and documents; maintaining and updating files and records as needed; and developing programs to promote community resources within Cedar Falls.  Duties will also involve studying and recommending  long-range goals and objectives and preparing an annual budget based on anticipated revenues and expenses for the Director’s approval; hiring, supervising, directing, and evaluating the work of Visitors & Tourism/Cultural Programs Division staff and volunteers in accordance with City of Cedar Falls policies; assisting the Visitors & Tourism Board and Art & Cultural Board in organizing and conducting monthly board meetings; working cooperatively with other tourism bureaus and cultural entities; serving as the staff liaison to various boards, commissions, or committees as assigned by the Director; and preparing and maintaining tourism and cultural service statistics that document program benefits.
 
Minimum experience and education requirements include: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in tourism & hospitality management, leisure services administration, event management, business administration, business management, marketing, advertising, public relations, art administration, art, art history, or a related field AND three years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, visitors & tourism/cultural program management, marketing, teaching in fields listed under minimum experience, or other related fields including at least two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
