Government Relations/ Business Analytics Intern

The Government Relations intern will assist in legislative and regulatory initiatives in the healthcare industry with research, special event planning and preparation, communication and administrative duties. We are in search of an individual to be part of our team who has a passion for public policy and researching, strong communication skills, excellent written communication skills, and is well versed with excel spreadsheets. Creating graphs and analyzing data is also highly necessary in this position.
 
Our team travels to Washington D.C. and many other areas of the country meeting with members of Congress advocating for the betterment of the home medical equipment (HME) industry. In order to gain the support of legislators, our team also analyzes HME business and produces graphs to paint a picture of the HME.
 
The work is fast-paced and deadline focused. You will be challenged to work as part of a team and autonomously on projects such as:

  • Compiling and documenting historical and current legislative/regulatory statutes, rules and laws relating to the healthcare industry
  • Debriefing and communicating legislative actions
  • Intense data driven research; Monitor and Research any new legislative/regulatory alerts at the state and federal level
  • Answer member and internal policy/regulatory questions, via telephone or in person
  • Produce content for legislative updates and industry articles
  • Read through regulatory guidance for updates on competitive bidding program
  • Posting/monitoring social media for opportunities
  • Create graphics, reports, spreadsheets of data relevant to the HME Industry
  • Collaborate with VGM Marketing on writing for VGM newsletters and legislative updates provided to members
  • Help prepare formal presentations, participate in formal presentations
  • Help manage and encourage growth of the VGM Political Action Committee
  • Be willing to take on projects and act as project manager
  • Perform other routine administrative tasks as needed
Preferable candidates should be well versed in public policy, business analytics and/or political science and preferably an educational background in either focus field.
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel and relevant software such as MS-office: Word, PowerPoint etc.

  • Strong critical thinking skills and dedication to research

  • Possess the ability to be independent in much of their function and to reach out when help is needed
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple, potentially conflicting deadlines with attention to detail and within agreed timelines
