At Hawkeye Community College, the Business Office is team-oriented working in partnership with multiple departments across campus. They are passionate about serving Hawkeye’s students, faculty and staff on a daily basis.
 
As the Associate Director of Business Services, you will work closely with the Director in managing the Business Office functions of the college. This position supports compliance with state and federal regulations including reporting requirements. Additionally, this position aids in preparing and reviewing general ledger activity.

Essential Job Functions 
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervises and evaluates staff responsible for requisitions, purchase orders, credit card usage.
  • Assists with investment of College funds.
  • Reviews business office processes and recommends changes; assists with implementation of changes.
  • Coordinates documentation of business office processes and maintains up-to-date files.
  • Assists with year-end audit entries and annual audit schedules.
  • Assists Director with ad-hoc projects.
  • Supports the Payroll Coordinator and assists with payroll functions.
  • Assists with annual budget development.
  • Completes monthly and correcting journal entries as assigned.
  • Provides backup accounting for miscellaneous state and federal grants.
  • Assists with accuracy and balancing of the general ledger.
  • Participates in campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with four (4) years of progressive leadership experience in accounting, auditing, or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling eight (8) years.
  • Knowledge of budget administration and fiscal management. 
  • Knowledge of accounting practices, procedures and principles. 
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • Must possess supervisory skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public. 
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication. 
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in governmental accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel including formulas and pivot tables.
  • Experience with payroll processing.
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional hours during the evening and on weekends.
 
Work is performed in an office setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty, staff and public in person, by telephone and computers.
 
Employment Status
