Director- Center for Violence Prevention

Responsibilities and Impact: Leads and directs the Patricia A. Tomson Center for Violence Prevention’s involvement in identifying emerging issues, needs and strategies in violence prevention; advocates for and systematically implements prevention education, training and programming; facilitates and directs multi-level prevention approaches with institutions of higher education, K-12 school districts, and community stakeholders around bullying and gender based violence throughout the state of Iowa and regionally; evaluates and disseminates outcomes to key stakeholders; facilitates the engagement of men as allies in gender based violence prevention; represents UNI on key state, regional and national education and public health committees, advisory boards or task forces focusing on violence prevention and the promotion of healthy relationships and safe and supportive communities; supports academic departments and faculty in their program curriculum through the integration of leadership and prevention strategies; and teaches select university courses as directed by the Dean.
 
Requirements: Master’s degree in related field required; At least five years of educational/organizational administration leadership and experience with program development, implementation and evaluation of multi-level approaches to violence prevention and/or intervention programs and trainings; experience with grant writing, budgets and grant management; and experience developing and sustaining collaborations and partnerships with educational and/or community partners.
 
Preferred: Doctorate degree in related field; experience and leadership in implementing the Mentors in Violence Prevention model; and experience in developing certification and continuing education opportunities.
