Instructor, Elementary Education and Coordinator, 2+2 Program
The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction within the College of Education (COE), in partnership with Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), seeks applications for an instructor and program coordinator to join a division of a department that offers doctoral, masters, and undergraduate education programs. This position is a 9-month academic year term appointment and includes an additional 3-month summer appointment. Situated out of the WITCC campus, this position as Instructor and Program Coordinator will have two sets of responsibilities: 1) As Instructor of Elementary Education, teach four elementary education courses at undergraduate level per semester (such as instructing classes or providing clinical supervision) and 2) As program coordinator, recruit and build enrollment for the program, collaborate with local K-6 schools specifically in the Sioux City and surrounding area, serve as point of contact for the program, and engage in regular interaction with WITCC students and staff in support of the program. Success in this position will be measured primarily by an increase in enrollment and there will be an expectation to travel regularly, in the local area, to build relationships.
The successful candidate must be able to teach in one or more of the following areas: curriculum theory and development; methods of teaching; social studies; science; arts-integration methods; or classroom management, including online courses. The successful candidate must have proximity to Sioux City, Iowa, and the surrounding area. The successful candidate must hold a Master's degree in elementary education or a related field. Required qualifications includes at least three years of successful full-time teaching experience as a certified/licensed elementary teacher in grades K-6 in the United States, Canada, or an American-affiliated school abroad; evidence of successful instruction in online formats; and demonstrated experience in outreach, recruitment or K12 school/higher education partnerships.
Preference will be given to candidates with a specialist degree or earned doctorate in elementary curriculum and instruction or related field; prior university teaching experience; expertise in elementary education including, but not limited to adult non-traditional students; involvement with supervision of university students in field experiences; collaboration experience between a university and public schools; knowledge and use of educational instructional technology in the elementary curriculum and/or experience with online or blended teaching and learning; prior experience in leadership roles in education; and prior experience in enrollment management.
