Executive Director of Nursing and Chief Academic Nurse Administrator
The University of Northern Iowa’s Division of Academic Affairs seeks applications for the position of Executive Director of Nursing and Chief Academic Nurse Administrator (CANA). Reporting directly to the Provost, this two-year appointment can develop into a full-time tenure-eligible position beyond the initial two-year term. The successful candidate will dedicate to a two-year full-time effort to help an administrative team develop the social networks necessary to apply for accreditation, curricular innovation, and crafting of staffing decisions to build a BSN program. Consideration may be given for this position to provide consultative work remotely with targeted campus visits to Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The CANA collaboratively builds a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) program from the ground up and manages its development and growth; plays the leading role in identifying and building the physical footprint while overseeing the purchase and installation of the needed equipment and instrumentation within the learning environment; plans, organizes, staffs, and supervises the UNI nursing program; promotes instructional quality, organizational integrity, and student success at the highest level; pursues a continuing state of the art knowledge and professional development and serves as a role model for the nursing programs; commits to the mission of UNI while performing a variety of other functions within the University; advances the university vision, mission, and strategic plan in relation to nursing and health care; provides leadership and facilitation for the curriculum development processes; coordinates nursing program accreditation and review while overseeing the completion of related documentation for review by the Board of Regents and Iowa Board of Nursing; implements and administers policies and regulations affecting nursing students, including oversight of student requests, complaints, and grievances; acts as liaison or representative of nursing on several external committees; and provides oversight for the development of the new nursing program, including recruitment and curricular initiatives, program assessment, budget and funding allocations, and supervision of staff and faculty.

Required qualifications include a Master’s degree; qualifications sufficient to be considered for tenured Associate Professor rank; and at least eight years of experience in higher education with at least four years of leadership and supervision experience in university or college nursing programs. Demonstrated experience with supervision of staff, budget management, and the nursing accreditation process; commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels; excellent writing, listening, and oral communication skills; and evidence of program planning, project management, academic administration, and successful collaboration also required.
Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree; qualifications sufficient for full Professor rank; experience navigating and leading nursing programs to be fully accredited; demonstrated understanding and use of the collaborative process of moving projects forward; experience developing and improving nursing curriculum; and experience with assessment using data-based strategies.
