The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Economics seeks applicants for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Economics, starting in August 2023. This position will be responsible for teaching courses in macroeconomics on a regular basis. Other teaching responsibilities, depending on expertise, may include money & banking, statistics, and courses that contribute to the business analytics and health care curricula. The department is open to candidates with a variety of macro-focused research agendas, areas of specialization, and methodological approaches. Especially welcome are candidates who can bridge the gap between theory and practice, bring global perspectives to their teaching and research, and convey the importance of economics in a business environment. Applicants seeking a balance in teaching and research responsibilities will find a collegial work environment. In-person, on-campus teaching and regular office hours are required.

The College of Business ( is AACSB-accredited and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing & Entrepreneurship) along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The College has 53 full-time faculty and 52 staff, and enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The College is recognized as a "Best Business School" by The Princeton Review, listed among U.S. News & World Report's top part-time MBA programs, and as a Military Times Best for Vets: Business Schools. The College has a strong international presence, developing strategic alliances with several international business schools. The College has successfully maintained its tradition of teaching excellence while raising its scholarly profile, secured alternative sources of funding, and established a distinct strategic identity. The College boasts a significant economic outreach unit, Business & Community Services, engaging faculty and students, annually working in all 99 counties, and actively contributing to Iowa's economic vitality.
The Department of Economics consists of 8 faculty members and around 100 undergraduate students majoring in the department. The department supports the MBA program, on campus and internationally. The department has a history of teaching excellence evidenced by the active engagement of our students. Faculty are committed to high quality scholarship, are recognized in their fields, and support the College's commitment to the teacher/scholar model. The department is known for its collegial and supportive environment in both scholarship and teaching, with opportunities for department seminars and collaboration. Our faculty are actively engaged and committed to the growth and continuous improvement of the Economics program in a collective, team-oriented effort to foster the success of its students.
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Economics from an AACSB-accredited doctoral program. Economics ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2023.  Required qualifications include a background in macroeconomics; record of excellence in teaching; demonstrated ability to produce publishable research in economics journals; and demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with stand-alone teaching experience; demonstrated ability to contribute to a business analytics curriculum; experience in money and banking; experience in health economics; evidence of ability to advance the academic, professional, and personal success of students; and evidence of research, teaching, and/or service that positively advances issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
