POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title of Position – Pathways Center: Academic Success Coach
Preparation Date:  September 10, 2019

Function of Position:
Twelve-month, half-time position, responsible to the Director of Pathways for administering academic success initiatives including day-to-day management of the Supplemental Instruction program.  Serve as a Pathways Center team member dedicated to helping students achieve their academic, personal and professional goals. Limited evening hours required for two weeks per academic term to observe and provide feedback for student led-SI sessions.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
1)    Collaborate with academic departments and manage all aspects of the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program. Duties include recruiting, hiring, training, and ongoing supervision of students in SI Leader positions each academic year.  Position supervises approximately 30 SI Leaders during the academic year.  Responsible for designing and maintaining current SI Leader training materials and SI forms as well as conducting training before the start of each term, and providing ongoing training through meetings and observations (evening hours required). Other duties include marketing the program to students, and communicating with faculty members as needed.  Oversees the collection of assessment data collection for the SI program and completion of reports at the end of each term and year. (60%)
What is Supplemental Instruction: Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-assisted study session that focuses on collaboration, group study, and interaction for assisting students in undertaking "traditionally difficult" courses. SI targets traditionally difficult courses and then provides a trained peer who has successfully negotiated the course to assist its future students.  Through 60-minute SI sessions, students are provided with course-specific learning and study strategies, note taking and test taking skills, as well as the opportunity for a structured study time with peers.
2)    Design, coordinate, and implement Pathways Center related activities, services and events that contribute to the academic, personal and professional development of students. (20%)
3)    Serve as an Academic Success Coach by mentoring a small group of assigned students throughout the life of their academic program to ensure they are making meaningful progress toward their academic, personal and professional goals. (20%)

Supervision:
Employee reports to the Director of the Pathways Center and together they determine work assignments and priorities.  Employee independently devises new methods to meet conditions and confers with supervisor regarding unusual matters.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
