Front of House Manager

Reports to: Managing Director
Hours: Full-time, non-exempt; flexible schedule with some nights and weekends
Compensation: $17.50-$20.00/hr (approx. $36,400-$41,600 annually), commensurate with experience.
Preferred Start Date: October 28, 2024

CFCT Background: Cedar Falls Community Theatre is a performing arts organization nearing its 50th anniversary in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The company produces six theatrical productions each year and hosts a variety of performing arts experiences, rentals, and educational programs around the calendar year. CFCT is housed in the historic Oster Regent, a 1910 theatre with a 462-seat hall.

Position Summary: The Front of House Manager is responsible for execution of business operations and patron services of the company. This role ensures that every patron, volunteer, and contractor has a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience from the moment they enter the building to when they leave. The ideal candidate will possess strong secretarial skills, a self-starter work ethic, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a collaborative spirit comfortable with communicating between staff, volunteers, and external parties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patron Services
    • Serve as the first point of contact for all theatre visitors. Maintain a high standard of customer service by addressing patron inquiries.
    • Recruit, train, and manage front of house volunteers, including ushers, house managers, concessions, and box office personnel. Schedule shifts and ensure adequate coverage for all performances and events.
    • Prepare and submit regular reports on patron attendance, sales, feedback, and front of house operations to the Managing Director.
    • Oversee box office operations, including ticket sales, cash handling, and reconciliation. Manage concession inventory, pricing, and sales.
  • Business Operations
    • Oversee financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, and overseeing completion of annual audits.
    • Perform secretarial duties, such as answering phones, making copies, etc.
    • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Oster Regent Theatre. Ensure all public areas are presentable and operational. Liaise with custodial staff. Purchase supplies needed for various events, rehearsals, and meetings.
    • Assist the Managing Director in drafting and executing rental contracts. Ensure all Oster Regent renters needs are met in a timely and hospitable manner.
    • Process all contributions, including the yearly APPLAUD program. Assist Managing Director in grant writing and reporting.
    • Oversee production of printed programs. Create and distribute press releases to local media. Update website content and upkeep box office data.

Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in ticketing and point-of-sale systems.
    • Basic financial management skills, including cash handling and reconciliation.
    • Familiarity and mastery of office platforms such as Quickbooks, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
    • Ability to multitask, handle stressful situations, and resolve conflicts effectively.
    • Collaborative mindset and ability to recruit and lead volunteer teams.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent research, written and oral communication skills.
    • Knowledge and interest in working within a theatrical environment.
    • Must have consistent evening and weekend availability.
