Deputy City Clerk (Full Time) Position summary: The City of Hudson, Iowa, is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and community-focused Deputy City Clerk to join our administrative team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the City Clerk with day-to-day operations, daily financial responsibilities, assisting with City Council activities, and delivering excellent service to residents. The Deputy City Clerk may also be assigned some treasurer responsibilities and will act as the City Clerk in their absence. Key Responsibilities: • Administrative Support: Prepare and distribute City Council agendas and minutes; attend meetings as needed. • Records Management: Maintain city records in compliance with Iowa public records laws. • Customer Service: Respond to public inquiries and provide information on city services and procedures. • Financial Assistance: Assist with budgeting, bill processing, payroll, and accounts payable. • Elections & Notices: Support municipal election coordination and publication of public notices. • Office Operations: Perform general office duties and support special projects or events. • Cross-Training: Learn City Clerk responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations. • Compliance: Stay current on Iowa open meetings and public records laws. • Treasurer Responsibilities: Follow the City’s Investment Policy and financial procedures as outlined in the City Ordinance for all assigned treasurer responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications: • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in public or business administration preferred. • Experience: 1–3 years in an administrative or clerical role, preferably in a municipal setting. • Skills: • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn municipal software (e.g., gWorks, Caselle, Civic, Laserfiche). • Typing speed of at least 40 WPM. • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Basic knowledge of Iowa Code or willingness to learn. • Certification: Notary designation required within six months of hire; CMC certification preferred. • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, sit for extended periods, and operate office equipment. Preferred Qualifications • Associate’s degree or higher. • Experience with municipal records or accounting. • Familiarity with Iowa’s open meetings and public records laws. • Public-facing customer service experience. Hours, Compensation & Benefits: • Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; Occasional evenings/weekends for meetings or events. • Location: Hudson City Hall, 525 Jefferson Street, Hudson, IA 50643. • Wage Range: $37,440 – $41,600 annually (commensurate with experience and qualifications) • Benefits (Full-Time): • Health, dental, and vision insurance. • Participation in IPERS. • Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. • Professional development opportunities.
