We are excited to kick off our 2021 Women for Good programming with you! Our February 18 program includes some great nonprofit speakers. Joni Spencer and Shinita Crawley with Together for Youth and Lisa Ambrose with Amani Community Services will give us insight into local programs working to empower African American women in our communities. We will once again host this program online to help keep our members and community safe. You will be sent information on how to join upon your RSVP. Keep reading for more information.
Together for Youth
SiHLE Program
SiHLE (Sisters, Informing, Healing, Living, and Empowering) is an empowering, social skills training intervention aimed at African American females age 12-18 years old. The sessions are gender-specific and culturally relevant and include practicing behavioral skills such as assertive communication, group discussions, lectures, and role-playing.
The SiHLE program is designed to address disparities within the African American population. The program addresses sexual health issues and prevention skills for young women to practice when faced with issues of adversity.
Amani Community Services
Amani Community Services is a culturally specific domestic violence and sexual assault agency serving African Americans in Black Hawk and Linn Counties. The organization provides counseling, outreach services, personal advocacy, legal advocacy, and children’s programming.
