This workshop will provide steps on to how address HR policies in relation to the regulation issues of marijuana usage in the workplace. We will refer to the legislative background of regulation of marijuana as it is important to this discussion about policies. By the end of this training, participants will be able to: • Realize the statistics related to the public opinion, substance abuse, and establish SHRM's perspective on marijuana. • Create a new/updated/revised organizational policy pertaining to the legal issues regarding marijuana. Identify the challenges and risks associated with the lack of/difficulty in testing usage levels of marijuana. • Analyze how changes surrounding the issues of marijuana in our state will impact an employer’s workplace policies. • Identify what options employers have for discipline, termination and employment decisions for their policies in terms of liability to employees, customers or other members of the public. • Forecast how future changes to the legalization of marijuana would impact future policies, practices, discipline and employment decisions. • Problem-solve different issues and options related to marijuana usage in the workplace. • Address step-by-step guides on how a company can minimize the risk of marijuana use in the workplace.
