Fiesta! A Celebration of Latino Culture

The Waterloo Center for the Arts, in partnership with community organizations and businesses will host Fiesta: A Celebration of Latino Heritage, a series of free family-friendly events that celebrate Latino culture and diversity in the Cedar Valley. This year’s festival is planned for July 8th through 10th at the RiverLoop Amphitheatre.

Thursday, July 8 |  The Waterloo Municipal Band will perform Quien Sera as part of its concert set for the evening which kicks off at 7:30 pm. The piece, a bolero-mambo, was written by Mexican composer Pablo Beltran Ruiz. Originally recorded by Beltran and Pedro Infante, American audiences may be more familiar with the song’s English version, Sway, which was popularized by recordings by Dean Martin and more recently, Michael Buble. The performance will also feature a Latin dance performance.

Friday, July 9 | The Waterloo Center for the Arts’ will present the musical drama Selena in Spanish with English subtitles as part of its Cinema on the Cedar outdoor summer film series. The evening will feature fun family activities starting at 6:00 pm, including a piñata breaking at 7:00 pm, a Zumba dance with Angelica Rodriguez at 7:45 pm and children’s activities and cultural displays throughout the evening. The movie will begin at dusk, or approximately 9:15 pm. El Camino Taco Truck will be on site serving food.

Saturday, July 10 | RiverLoop Rhythms will feature Tropicante presenting a free concert to share traditional Latin dance music with the community from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm. The show will kick off with a full mariachi band set followed by music in a variety of styles from throughout Latin America. The event will also include boxing and soccer demonstrations and traditional Latino dance performances. Concessions, including El Camino Taco Truck will be available.
